This showcase of outstanding short subject fiction and documentary films is the culmination of work completed each semester. In a competitive selection process, a faculty jury chooses the best six to eight hours of student film submissions. No film is longer than 11 minutes, and all films are created by students of SDSU’s acclaimed Television, Film, and New Media program.

Anna in the Tropics

Passions and ill-fated love ignite when a charismatic new lector comes to the Ybor City cigar factory to read to the workers. Romances flame and marriages explode when he begins reading the novel Anna Karenina and the scandalous lives of Tolstoy’s characters become dangerously intertwined with the lives of his listeners. Winner of the 2003 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Anna in the Tropics is a steamy, lyrical plunge into the whirlpools of imagination and love.

Over the course of a series of dinners, drinks, and even a wedding, his friends explain the pros and cons of taking a spouse. Robert is forced to question his adamant retention of bachelorhood during a hilarious array of interactions in this Tony award-winning musical.

Follow the adventures of Sonny, an inquisitive little fox who sets out to explore the world. Along the way, he meets other animals who teach him valuable lessons about the importance of friendship and working together. Each encounter has a moral and each moral is presented in song drawn from Aesop’s Fables.
