Audition Requirements for Performance Majors

Prospective students wishing to major in Theatre Arts with an emphasis in PERFORMANCE must audition for the School of Theatre, Television, and Film. Students who wish to apply to SDSU with a general Theatre Arts emphasis are not required to audition.

To be considered for the performance emphasis, you need to be CSU eligible. Here’s a handy website to help you determine your eligibility:

CSU Eligibility

For prospective performance majors, the application is a two-step process:

    1. First you need to apply to SDSU using the Cal State Apply application during the October 1, 2018 through November 30, 2018 filing period.

Visit the Office of Admissions website for information about applying to the school.

There is a non-refundable filing fee of $55 that must be paid at the time of your SDSU application.

    2. Next you need to upload your audition through the Acceptd audition website platform between October 1, 2018 and January 20, 2019. There you will asked to upload one of two video audition packages, based on whether your focus of training will be acting or musical theatre.

    Visit the Acceptd audition website.

    Audition Option #1 - ACTING

    Two contrasting monologues

    • One monologue should be contemporary realism and the other a classical or heightened language piece.
Introduce both monologues at the beginning of your audition.
      Total audition time: 3 minutes.

Audition Option #2 - MUSICAL THEATRE

One monologue, and a portion of one song

    • The song selection should be from the musical theatre repertoire, but can be any style or genre. Pick something that you love and shows us what you can do best!
      Total audition time: 3 minutes.

There is a non-refundable application fee of $30 that must be paid at the time of your Acceptd audition upload.

If the $30 application fee is burdensome, there is a limited amount of scholarship assistance to help defray this cost. Please contact Peter Cirino for more information at

If you are denied admission based on your performance audition, you cannot apply to SDSU again until the following academic year.
