David Morong specializes in design for television and film. A graduate of the MFA program in theatre design from NYU, he began his career on the East Coast, working in independent film and commercials until he fell into an opportunity with an upstart cable channel called MTV, where he spent almost 10 years as their resident designer, working on scores of shows and helping define the look of the network. His MTV connections and a move to the West Coast led to to production design work for VH1, HBO, Comedy Channel, TNN. and Fox. He has worked as an art director on the HBO series Carnivale, where he received an Emmy nomination, and Big Lov”. He has also been the production designer or art director on a number of feature films, including King of California and Are You Here?

In 2006 Morong joined the School of Theatre, Television and Film at SDSU, which was recently recognized as one of the top ten programs in production design in the world by the Hollywood Reporter. He is also a Senior Lecturer in the Production Design area at the American Film Institute, where he specializes in design software. He is the author of “Modeling with Sketchup for Entertainment Design”, and is the current editor of “PERSPECTIVE. The Journal of the Art Directors Guild”, a bi-monthly publication that is the leading source of information on the design of contemporary film and television.
