Bio
Geno Carr is a San Diego based actor, singer, director, and educator who originated the role of Oz & Others in the Tony and Olivier Award-winning hit musical Come From Away. He performed the role over 1200 times on Broadway, in Toronto, Washington DC, the world premiere production at the La Jolla Playhouse, and on the national tour.
Geno starred in Bush Wars Off-Broadway as well as on the national tours of Phantom, The Buddy Holly Story and Grease. Favorite regional credits include principal roles in The Full Monty, The Producers, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Peter Pan, Little Shop of Horrors, City of Angels, South Pacific, Forever Plaid, Ragtime, The Secret Garden, Damn Yankees, Bat Boy, and I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change.
Select San Diego credits include the Henry VI, Part One, Allegiance, and five years as Papa Who or Grandpa Who in Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas at The Old Globe: Come From Away, Love All, and 3 Summers of Lincoln at La Jolla Playhouse; Assassins, Parade, Little Shop of Horrors, and Sweeney Todd (Cygnet Theatre, Resident Artist); The Importance of Being Earnest, Mixtape, The Music Man, The Servant of Two Masters (Craig Noel Award nomination), A Christmas Carol, and The Foreigner (Lamb’s Players Theatre, Associate Artist). He has also appeared at North Coast Repertory Theatre (Way Downriver, I Love You Because and A Christmas Carol), San Diego Musical Theatre (Next to Normal), and Intrepid Theatre Company (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee).
Geno has directed plays and musicals at Moonlight Youth Theatre, Sarah Lawrence College, Stephens College, Grossmont College, Hartwick College, Heritage Theatre Festival, and San Diego Musical Theatre.
In addition to serving for two years as Assistant Professor of Theatre and Guest Artist at Stephens College, he has also served on the faculties of Grossmont College, MiraCosta College, and taught on three voyages with Semester at Sea (University of Virginia/University of Colorado, academic sponsors). In New York City, he taught with Broadway Classroom, Believe NYC, and Junior Tours, served as Co-Director of Education for San Diego Musical Theatre Academy, and has also taught at North Coast Repertory Theatre, North County School of the Arts, and Youth Performing Arts School.
Geno holds an MFA in Theatre with emphases in Acting and Directing from Sarah Lawrence College, a dual BA in Music and Theatre with an emphasis in Musical Theatre from Hartwick College, and is a member of Actors’ Equity Association and the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society. www.GenoCarr.com @GenoCarr
