Bio
Nicholas Kim (Ponting) is a set designer, installation and stained glass artist based in San Diego, CA. His work has been seen at; The La Jolla Playhouse/WoW, The 5th Ave, IAMA Theatre Co., Boston Court, LA Opera, Chautauqua Theatre Co, Antaeus Theatre Co, Detroit Public Theatre, Theatre Battery and others. He is the associate scenic designer and installation supervisor for Optika Moderna, creating immersive theatrical experiences in San Diego with recent collaborators such as La Jolla Playhouse, Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego and New Children’s Museum of San Diego.
Nick has worked as a stained glass artist for over 15 years. He has a design studio in Barrio Logan at Studio Culture, where he creates contemporary stained glass and teaches private classes. His work can be seen locally at the Lafayette Hotel in the mezcal bar Quixote.
Nick joined SDSU's School of Theatre, Television & Film in 2023. He is a lecturer in scenic and immersive theatrical design. He teaches courses such as; Scene Design I, Mechanical Drafting, Business of Design, Advanced Media and Immersive Theatrical Design. Nick received his MFA in set design from the University of California San Diego studying under Robert Brill, and his BA in theatre from Western Washington University.
