Bio
Tim Powell is an internationally recognized, Emmy award-winning filmmaker. He wrote and directed the feature film “Riding with James Dean,” as well as directing other feature films like “A Weekend with Pablo Picasso,” and “JQA.” In addition, he directed the concert sequences for the theatrically released concert documentary, “Como Un Sueño,” featuring Gerardo Ortiz (AMC Theatres and international theatrical release). In addition to working on over 350 episodes of network television for ABC, NBC, CBS, and FOX, Tim worked as a producer and/or director for 12 Discovery Channel and Discovery Networks series. He also spent five years producing and directing for the documentary series, “National Geographic Explorer.” He has a long history with Walt Disney Productions and Disney Entertainment, including live shows and network television specials. He has traveled all over the world, filming documentaries in 25 countries.
Tim has multiple Emmy award nominations for prime-time, national, and regional programs, with five Emmy award wins, including Emmy awards for documentary films and live directing (NATAS-PSW). He recently worked as a supervising producer for MGM on an Amazon Prime original series and two seasons of a series for the National Geographic Channel. He produces a concert television series for KPBS-TV entitled “Live at the Belly Up,” currently in its 10th season, as well as numerous productions, live streams, and live broadcasts for performing arts organizations, such as San Diego Ballet, San Diego Opera, and the Old Globe.
Currently, he is focusing on Virtual Reality (VR) immersive 360 and 180 stereoscopic (3-D) productions as a Metaverse filmmaker. The immersive productions span from narrative films and series to documentary and performing arts films.
