Bio

Mabelle Reynoso (she/her/ella) is a playwright, multidisciplinary storyteller, and educator specializing in theatre for multigenerational audiences, ethnotheatre, and creative communities in carceral spaces. Her art is largely informed by her work with underserved and marginalized populations, including Spanish-speaking immigrants, expectant teens, foster youth, and justice-involved youth and adults. She has a BFA from New York University in Film/Television, an MFA in Computer Arts from the School of Visual Arts, and is currently a PhD candidate at the University of San Diego in Education for Social Justice. Her dissertation focuses on using theatre to amplify the voices of Latino men who have experienced incarceration.

Playwriting commissions include La Jolla Playhouse POP Tour, Northwest Children's Theatre, Stages Theatre Company, Olympia Family Theatre, TuYo Theatre, Kaiser Permanente Educational Theatre, and the San Diego Symphony. She is also the co-host of the podcast Hey Playwright. In addition to her creative and academic work, Mabelle has taught playwriting in California state prisons since 2015.
