What happens when four well-meaning but somewhat clueless individuals attempt to create a culturally sensitive Thanksgiving play for an elementary school? It goes about as well as you might expect.... In this play-within-a-play by Larissa FastHorse (Sicangu Lakota Nation), the characters brainstorm ideas and write their show, but their enthusiasm often leads to hilariously absurd results. As they struggle to navigate the treacherous waters of cultural appropriation, they inadvertently reveal their own blind spots and misconceptions about Native American culture and history. The Thanksgiving Play is a humorous and thought provoking exploration of the challenges of addressing historical injustices with sensitivity and authenticity.
